I don’t have internet at home. I have a phone with unlimited data and a tablet, so I’ve never seen the need to add another monthly bill. With that in mind... Is there any way for me to get Netflix on a television? Seems like all the dongles need wifi, and I can’t mirror from my phone like I could back in the day via an HDMI cable.

couldn’t you technically make your phone a hotspot, then get one of the dongles to stream through the hdmi?

You could buy a cheap wifi router and chromecast.

I think so. Only issue is that the “unlimited” data only include like 2gb of h otspot usage for whatever reason. Then again it’s possible T -mobile might still not count streaming towards the high-speed data cap. I think that was a promotion for awhile

Does your phone hotspot? That would be easiest wi-fi.
Otherwise there are wi-fi routers that support sim cards. You could either get a second sim card or swap it out of your phone.
Google Fi offers free data only sim cards tied to the same account.
There are also screen mirroring apps . But in my experience there’s quite a bit of lag between synced audio and visuals, with noticeable quality loss, but I might have just not been doing it right.

Hmm. I have the chromecast already. My technological knowledge has a large hole in the realm of internet connectivity. Would a wifi router be all I need? No paying for service?

I have a lightning to HDMI connector to watch some stuff from my phone/tablet on the TV, but I don’t know if Netflix would work. Some apps know when you’re doing this and won’t allow it.

Right you do not need internet just the wireless home connection. A modem is what gets you the internet from the service line. Many devices are combined modem-routers. You just need a wifi router.

Pretty much. As long as the chromecast and your phone are on the same wifi connection, you should be gtg. I can test it out tomorrow on my set up to make sure it works.

I couldn’t make this work on my iPhone . The issue was that when I turned on wifi on the phone, so the chromecast would work because they have to be on the same network , the phone lost internet connectivity. The phone ‘thinks’ that since it has a wifi connection that it should access the internet through wifi and not LTE. The only possible workaround would be if you used the Netflix download option to save the program and then maybe you can play it back to Chromecast while you are offline.

If the dongles need wifi couldn’t you make your phone a hotspot and the dongle just connect to that?

You will burn your ‘unlimited’ in a couple of days and be throttled to oblivion , but you could do it. Use your phone as a hotspot.

This is a very interesting question. Even though it seems like it should be easy, the tendency of all modern software to assume every network is connected to the internet make me suspect that most off-the-shelf consumer solutions aren’t gonna work. I don’t think Chromecast will work for the reasons GLiddy gave. Maybe if Netflix will let you cast episodes downloaded to your phone, but even then you have to make sure you have enough space, then wait for it to download, which is really annoying and defeats a lot of the point of Netflix.
Android or iOS?

He has two devices, there should be a way to use the phone as the modem for the wifi network and then just use the tablet to chromecast stuff.

Yikes. I dropped cable and went strictly internet for a while but then Fios had a great deal 3 hd boxes dvr any room, 1Gb internet and limited Tv for $80 a month. It was solid. Once that’s up I’ll drop back to their $40 a month internet plan @150MBs which is fine.
I remember my mom saying hers was $200, but I thought she was exaggerating ... I may need to check on her now.

You’re kind of hosed. Your 2gb cap is your bottleneck. Otherwise, you would just use hotspot on your phone to connect your tablet and chromecast like any normal home connection. But doing that will burn quickly through your data.
Useful info: The chromecast doesn’t bridge the connection to your phone for it’s data. It uses the wifi network that it’s connected to. In order to tell a Chromecast what to do, it has to be connected to some Wifi network. If your phone is android, you can have your phone on an un related network and using the “nearby device” function, you can still control it. But that’s all just extra info at this point.
Do you have a neighbor with internet? I would just pop my head in to say “hey, I don’t really use much internet since I use my phone for everything , but if I toss you $20 every month, would you let me put my Chromecast on your network? ” .
This may sound funny, but DSL providers do still exist and they can be surprisingly cheap. You don’t need the most screaming internet to use Netflix. I’ve done it over a 3 megabit connection and it works fine for the most part. $20-40/mo should do it.

Do you have a computer? or access to one. You could download the film to the computer and then upload to a flashdrive from your USB port to plug the flashdrive in to watch.
Alternatively do you have an internet ready TV and use the mobile phone as a wireless hotspot.
Also for the dinosaur noises they study the size and dimensions of the respective dinosaur and hypothesise the size of it’s lungs, position of the lungs, airways and size of airways based on studies of what we know done over the centuries of animals and looking closer as species that haven’t evolved so much as others from the M esozo ic period.
Take the noises from crocodiles, alligators, turtles, etc...

Do the router thing, but you'll have to download all the Netflix you want to watch to your device, then cast it.

You might be able to find a micro-USB -> HDMI adapter that supports your phone. I think that’ll be your best bet, but I am not familiar with the intricacies of compati bility between the two. Some light googling lead to this guide on the subject:
